Goodbye to Karen!

The bands recent performance at the Bolsover Festival of Brass closed yet another chapter in our history with a final appearance by long-standing Tenor Horn player Karen Pitts.

Karen has been with Derwent Brass for an impressive 13 years since a move from the Long Eaton Silver Prize Band.

Karen has played in all three horn positions, most notably on Solo Horn with her beautiful playing of "Suil a Ruin" from "The Cry of The Celts", both on the Celebration CD and live performances. Indeed one of these performances (and certainly a highlight in Karen's playing career) was on stage alongside the world famous Euphonium Virtuoso, Steven Mead, in Burton Town Hall. With Karen on Solo Horn the band have been successful in many competitions in addition to performing at the National Finals.

During her time at Derwent, Karen has also taken an active role on the band's committee.

Unfortunately other commitments lead Karen to make the difficult decision to leave the band. This parting was celebrated by a presentation to Karen of some Derwent Crystal from the band, together with love and immense thanks for her dedication to the band over the years, not just as a player but also as a person.

Hopefully it won’t be too long until Karen is at another Derwent Brass performance, either as a member of the audience or as a guest player.

The band wish Karen all the best for the future.
