Derwent Sponsors ‘Tubamania’ Initiative

‘Tubamania’ is a new initiative designed to provide the opportunity for Tuba, Euphonium and Baritone players to come together to perform lower-brass only ensemble music, experiment and understand other instruments, explore new repertoire and further develop playing techniques, including the advanced and unorthodox!

Initially conceived by Ben Armstrong and Adam Rutter (founding members of popular brass duet ‘Deep Down Brass’) as a way of bringing likeminded and predominantly local musicians together, the one-day programme aimed at players roughly of Grade 6 standard and above (no formal grades are required) has already had a high uptake from players around the region.

“The interest in Tubamania has been really positive and we are now approaching capacity numbers for attendees. We are keeping costs as low as possible to encourage participants and the more registered attendees will result in lower prices for all. This has been made possible by event sponsors Derwent Brass and the Strutt’s Community Project for whose support we are extremely grateful. Tubamania promises to be a fantastic opportunity to come together and play with other low brass players and experience the joy and tone of Tuba ensemble playing.” (Adam Rutter)

The schedule of massed warm up, ensemble playing, technical and full massed rehearsals will culminate in a free teatime public concert showcasing some of the day’s repertoire.

The event is being hosted at the Strutt’s Centre, Derby Road, Belper, Derbyshire, DE56 1UU on Sunday 4th August (10:00 – 18:00) with donations requested at c.£10-15 per delegate dependant on final numbers. The event is open to those aged over 13, though anyone aged under 18 must register an adult guardian.
