McLean Supports Derwent Celebrations

Derwent Brass continues to celebrate its silver anniversary with another set of quality ‘presents’, this time from the factory of the esteemed mute manufacturer, Mike McLean.

It has been an exciting 25th anniversary year for Derwent Brass with new works, events and acquisitions keeping the band busy. Finding themselves in need of nigh on a full range of cup and bucket mutes the band turned to Mike McLean, hand makers of the ‘pitch perfect’ range of fibreglass mutes, as used by some of the top names in the business including Black Dyke.

“We wanted quality mutes with a good pedigree, but more importantly a good sound that is in tune! Mike McLean’s range fits the bill perfectly and wherever possible the mutes have been made in a modular design to maximise on flexibility and storage requirements. The mutes have also been developed to suit our exact instrument range and Mike has been very accommodating in not only providing us with a great deal, but also offering an excellent level of service despite being extremely busy. We all recognise that a lot of modern works, especially at Championship level, call for different effects and adding this array of mutes to our inventory really cements the notion of being an established top section band.” (Chris Leonard, Band Manager).
