Not For Profit

Derwent Brass is a not for profit organisation and a registered charity in England and Wales (No: 1146146) with a mission to actively promote brass music and its education, whilst also supporting others and the local community. Since it was founded they have organised and performed at charitable events year on year, helping to raise tens of thousands of pounds for worthwhile causes.

Charitable Partnerships

Derwent Brass annually commit to a nominated Charity of the Year and most recently have entered into a partnership with the innovative charity Brass for Africa.

Group 124

They were the first English band to make a 'gold level pledge' to their brass band partnership scheme and are advocates of the good work they undertake in Africa with brass music at its core.

Community & Education

Though initially from Derby City, for several years now Derwent Brass have established their roots in Belper, Derbyshire where they have formed very close relationships with both 'Strutt's Community Project' and Belper Town Council. Wherever possible the band and its memebers support local events and projects and have an ever-increasing following from within the community.

As part of this mission and regional engagement the band organise brass playing and brass composition workshops with highly-recognised tutors, alongside supporting other musical education and other tuition. Similar initiatives include regularly inviting young local musicians to attend Derwent Brass events on complimentary basis to showcase what can be achieved from stretching the boundaries of brass performance and to further encourage their ambition and development.

Support

To support the ongoing progression of Derwent Brass, its associated art and culture, the organisation has been fortunate to be granted support from such bodies as the National Lottery, PRS for Music Foundation, Norman Jones Trust, The Rank Foundation, Belper Town Council, Royal Bank of Scotland (W&G), Derbyshire Freemasons and more.
