Record Amount Raised for Belper Poppy Appeal
For nearly 10 years Derwent Brass has been organising and performing ‘A Night to Remember’ at St. Peter’s Church in Belper – a festival of music and remembrance to raise funds for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. We are grateful for the support of our followers and the local community who have helped its attraction and success grow exponentially during this time.
In particular, the appeal and band alike are indebted to the tireless work of Kath Woodward, the chair of the Belper Branch of the Royal British Legion. Kath, and husband David Woodward are avid supporters of the band, and without doubt, their endorsement and promotion have been key to unlocking the continued success of the festival.
“Even though A Night To Remember is performed on the day before Remembrance Sunday (and for me there is much yet to do in support of the appeal) I always consider your performance on the evening before Remembrance to be the culmination of the actual appeal and, because of this, it is an event that I really look forward to and enjoy, even with a sense of poignancy.
On behalf of The Royal British Legion, may I once again thank Derwent Brass for their fantastic Festival of Music and Remembrance and for the wonderful and generous donation to the Poppy Appeal.” (David Woodward, Belper Area Poppy Appeal Organiser)
Recorded proceeds from the concert, including donations kindly made by programme sponsors, totalled £750, the highest yield for this event series to date, with further donations directly made to the RBL on the night. The total raised for the Belper area in the 2023 appeal is an impressive £29.5k, an increase on prior year, and Derwent Brass are proud to have played a part in this sterling community effort.
All money raised by the Poppy Appeal goes towards the essential support work the RBL undertakes for our service men and women, veterans, and their families.
